The technique is intended primarily to identify combinatorial abilities and the level of fluency in abstract logical thinking. This technique cannot be classified as a test of verbal intelligence, because the level of combinatorial abilities equally correlates with both verbal and nonverbal intelligence.
The stimulus material consists of twelve sets of anagrams. Each set contains four anagrams. One anagram is “extra”, that is, it does not fall into a certain category common to the other three words. In this part, the technique is similar to the “Exclusion of Superfluous” test. The difference also lies in the fact that the test subject’s task does not include generalizing three words with a specific concept.
The technique can be carried out both individually and in a group.
